A buyer's guide to the world's rarest honey

Most “mad honey” sold online isn't real.

Diluted jars, mystery blends, stock photos of someone else's mountain — the mad honey market is full of it. Before you buy from anyone (including us), run these five checks. They take two minutes, and they'll save you from the fakes.

  • IMHSI-approved
  • Lab-tested every batch
  • Rated by thousands of buyers
  • Ships from the US & EU

Evidence, not promises. Check #1 asks whether a seller can show you a real harvest. Here's ours — we flew to Nepal and filmed the whole thing.

Five checks that expose a fake

Run these against any seller — us included. Real mad honey always comes with evidence.

Can they show you a real harvest?

Anyone can buy a stock photo of a cliff. Ask for footage of their harvest, their hunters, their valley. We filmed a full documentary of ours — it's the film at the top of this page.

  2. 02

Is every batch lab-tested — and is the report public?

Mad honey's calming compound (grayanotoxin) varies from hive to hive. Without third-party testing, potency is a guess — and a safety risk. Every batch we ship is tested by an independent lab, and we show the report further down.

  3. 03

Is it verified by the International Mad Honey Institute?

The International Mad Honey Certification & Standards Institute (IMHSI) is the independent body setting the standard for real mad honey: batch verification, traceability codes, and ethical harvest compliance. Real Mad Honey is IMHSI-approved. If a seller has never heard of it, that tells you something.

  4. 04

Do they know the people who harvest it?

Real mad honey comes from generational honey-hunting families, not factories. We work with one real source in far-west Nepal — you'll meet them by name and by face in the documentary.

  5. 05

Do they promise you a “trip”?

Red flag. Real mad honey gives a gentle, settling calm — a shift, not a high. Sellers promising psychedelic effects are either lying about the product or selling something that isn't mad honey.

The rule of thumb: if a seller can't show you the mountain, the people, the lab report, and the certification — walk away.

Check #3, explained

Who checks the checkers?

For years, mad honey had no referee — anyone could fill a jar, invent a story, and ship it. That's changing. The International Mad Honey Certification & Standards Institute (IMHSI) is the first independent certification body for mad honey, built around three things: batch verification (grayanotoxin profiling), traceability codes (from cliff to jar), and ethical compliance (fair, sustainable harvests).

Real Mad Honey is approved under the IMHSI framework. Our batches are traceable to one real source, GTX-verified by an independent lab, and harvested the way it's been done for generations — with the hunters, not around them. You can read more about the standard at imhsinstitute.org.

Ethical compliance isn't paperwork — it's these two, and families like theirs, getting a fair harvest.

So it passed the checks — now what?

What the real thing actually does

A gentle, settling calm. A quieter mind, a body that finally unwinds — most people describe the moment your shoulders drop after a long day, not fireworks. It varies from person to person, and it depends on how much you take.

Take it like the label says: start with a quarter to half a teaspoon in the evening, give it 30–45 minutes, and never exceed the recommended serving. Less is more.

Skip it entirely if you're pregnant or breastfeeding, have a heart condition or blood-pressure issues, take medication affecting heart rate, blood pressure or the nervous system, or are under 18. And to be clear: no THC, no CBD, no psilocybin, no synthetic additives — it's honey with naturally occurring grayanotoxins. Unsure? Ask your doctor.

What buyers say once the checking is done

A 4.2-star average across Trustpilot and our own store, rated by thousands of buyers. These are their words, not ours:

Notice what's not in there: no wild claims, no fireworks. Just calm, warmth, and a clear head. Exactly what check #5 says it should be.

Skeptics' questions, answered honestly

How do I know yours is real?

Run the five checks: our harvest documentary is at the top of this page, every batch has a public third-party lab report, we're IMHSI-approved, our source is one real honey-hunting family in Nepal, and we'll never promise you a “trip.”

Is it legal?

Mad honey is sold as a natural food product and ships legally to the US and EU. As with any specialty food, rules can vary by region, so it's worth a quick check on your local guidelines.

Will it make me trip or hallucinate?

No. It's a calm, warm body-and-mind shift — not a psychedelic experience. Anyone promising otherwise fails check #5.

What if I don't feel anything?

Give it a full 30–45 minutes before deciding, and don't stack spoonfuls. Sensitivity varies; a little more next time usually does it.

How fast does it ship?

Orders ship from local US and EU warehouses with tracking, usually within 1 business day.

What does it taste like?

Bold, earthy, and slightly bitter — noticeably more intense than supermarket honey. Most people take it straight off the spoon or stir it into warm (not boiling) tea.

Buy it like a skeptic.

Don't take our word for anything — that's the whole point of this page. Watch the film, open the lab report, check the certification, meet the hunters. Then decide.

And if the last doubt only clears once you've tasted it: our 60-day money-back guarantee covers exactly that — refunds are simple, just email us within 60 days of delivery.
