One harvest a year — this season's jars are in

Pick your jar while this season lasts

What is actually in the jar

Mad honey is wild honey from the Himalayas. A rhododendron high on those cliffs flowers for a few weeks a year, and its nectar carries a compound ordinary flowers do not. Apis laboriosa, the world’s largest honeybee, works that bloom and carries it into the comb — which is how it ends up in the jar. Nothing is infused and nothing is added; only the amount differs per harvest, which is why every batch is measured.

Where it comes from

Rhododendron blooms high on the ridges for a few weeks a year, and the bees work it. No hives, no plantations — the colonies are found, climbed to, and harvested by hand.

What we measure

Every batch goes to an independent laboratory. The report names the sample, the method and the measured content — and we publish it on our own site rather than describing it.

How you take it

One teaspoon in the last hour of the day, straight off the spoon. That is the whole instruction — no hot drink, no stirring it into anything.

What to expect

Three things worth knowing

Nothing here is a surprise we are hiding. It is what a wild, once-a-year honey is — and what one spoon of it is actually like.

  1. 01

Twenty minutes before the end of the day

That is the whole timing. It is not something you take with a meal or on top of a drink — it goes in the hour the glass used to have, at the end of the day.

  2. 02

    One teaspoon

Not a heaped spoon, not a dollop. Straight off the spoon, and never stirred into tea or anything hot.

  3. 03

    It is not a knockout

Some people notice very little on the first evening. This is a shift in the last hour of the day, not a switch. If your first spoon does nothing that is normal, and it is usually because it was too little rather than too much.

One teaspoon, twenty to forty minutes before you want the evening to land. Not together with alcohol. Adults only. Not while pregnant or breastfeeding, and not alongside prescribed medication or a heart condition without asking your doctor first. This is sold as food, not as medicine.

What we can prove about the jar

How do I know this is real mad honey?

Because there is a certificate on this page instead of a badge. Every batch is measured at an independent laboratory, and the report names the sample, the method and the number. Not all mad honey is the same strength, and we publish ours. Take the number off the report and compare it against whatever else you are looking at.

How do I know my jar is the batch you tested?

The report names the sample and the batch. If you want the certificate for the batch that arrives at your door, email us and we will send it.

Tested at an independent lab

Every batch goes to an independent laboratory. The report names the sample, the method and the measured grayanotoxin content — the compound that makes this honey what it is. We publish the number rather than describing it.

One region, one season

Nepal. Wild colonies on open cliff faces, harvested by hand during the single annual rhododendron bloom. No hives, no plantations, and never blended with table honey.

Approved under the IMHSI standard

The International Mad Honey Standards Institute sets a sourcing and testing standard for this category. We are approved under it — you can check us at imhsinstitute.org.

Small annual volume

One harvest a year sets the ceiling. When a season is finished it is finished; we do not top it up with something else.

60-day money-back guarantee. Give it a week of evenings. If it is not for you, email us within 60 days of delivery — open jar, half-empty jar, either way.

The honest comparison

A glass of wine, and one teaspoon

Only on the things you actually notice in the evening. Not on health — that is not the argument we are making.

Compare on A glass of wine One teaspoon
The ritual itself A glass of wine You pour, you sit, the day ends One teaspoon Exactly the same
How it feels A glass of wine Softened, gradually dulled One teaspoon Present and relaxed, not dulled
The next morning A glass of wine Slightly puffy, and you know the sleep was worse One teaspoon Clear
A second one? A glass of wine Usually One teaspoon One spoon is the serving

If you already tried the alcohol-free version

One takes something out. This is a thing in its own right.

Alcohol-free beer and de-alcoholised wine are built by removing the part that was doing the work. The glass stays, the bubbles stay, the bitterness stays. Which is exactly why the ritual survives and nothing else about the evening changes.

Nothing was taken out of this. It was never in it.

This is not a drink with a part removed. It is a wild honey with a compound in it that we measure and publish — batch by batch, at an independent lab, on a certificate you can open further down this page. People in Nepal have used it for a very long time. We are not going to tell you what it does to you; we are going to tell you what is in the jar and let you decide.

Why buyers pick ours

Four things we can actually stand behind

  • It is wild, not farmed

No hives and no plantations. The colonies sit on open cliff faces and are reached on foot.

  • The strength is a measured number

Every batch goes to an independent laboratory and the report is published on our site, not offered on request.

  • One harvest a year sets the ceiling

What the bees store in that window is all there is. When a season is finished we do not top it up with something else.

  • Sixty days to change your mind

Email us within 60 days of delivery and you get your money back. Open jar, half-empty jar, either way.

Awkward questions

The things people ask before they buy

How much do I take, and when?

One teaspoon — about five millilitres — twenty to forty minutes before you want the evening to land. Not more. Most people who notice nothing on the first evening took too little, not too much.

What does it taste like?

Darker and far less polite than ordinary honey — slightly bitter, a little sharp, closer to burnt caramel and citrus peel than to clover. Eat it straight off the spoon. Do not stir it into tea or anything hot.

Can I have it together with a drink?

No. One or the other. If you have already had a drink, leave the spoon for another evening.

What if I notice nothing at all?

Then tell us. You have 60 days from delivery, the jar can be open and half gone, and you get your money back. Before you do, check the serving: one full teaspoon, twenty to forty minutes ahead, on an evening you have not been drinking.

Who should not take this?

Adults only. Not while pregnant or breastfeeding. If you take prescribed medication or have a heart condition, ask your doctor first. It is sold as a food product and it is not medicine.

Where does it ship from, and will I pay import charges?

We ship from our US warehouses, tracked. To the Gulf that is Saudi Post, Emirates Post or FedEx, with the carrier's own tracking. Your country may add duty or import VAT on delivery, and that is charged by your carrier rather than by us — full detail on our shipping page.

What is it, exactly, and how is it sold?

It is a food product — wild honey from Nepal — and it is not a controlled substance. We sell it as food, for adults. Import rules differ from country to country and we cannot advise on yours, so if you are unsure, check with your local authority before you order.
